Gas leak closes Route 61 in Schuylkill County
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Route 61 is closed after officials say there was a gas leak in New Castle Township.
According to the Schuylkill County Communication Center Center, around 7:45 a.m. first responders were called to the area of Route 61 and Darkwater Lane for a report of a gas leak.
New information on ‘Mystery Note’ investigation
Officials said they shut down Route 61 just south of 81 near Frackville to the Walmart in St. Clair due to a road construction project accidentally damaging a gas main.
UGI’s Principal Communications Leader John Mason said there is not time frame as to when the leak will be repaired.
Traffic is being detoured to US 209, Route 901, and Interstate 81.
Mason sates only one business was affected in the area and no injuries have been reported.
