Gas drops again in N.L. as drivers prep for Victoria Day weekend

Drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador will pay less at the pump for the Victoria Day weekend, following the weekly price setting from the provincial fuels regulator.

The Public Utilities Board lowered the maximum retail price of gas by 3.2 cents per litre, meaning the highest allowed cost for self-serve unleaded is now $1.817 per litre on the Avalon Peninsula. Many retailers charge less.

Prices are higher in other locations, and range between $1.82 and $1.99 per litre across the rest of Newfoundland and between $1.77 and $2.15 per litre across Labrador.

It's the second week of a pricing drop, bringing the cost of gas down about 10 cents since May 2.

Diesel decreased by just 0.3 cents per litre across much of the province, but decreased 2.1 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The change puts prices between $1.80 and $1.92 per litre in Newfoundland and between $2.05 and $2.59 per litre in Labrador.

The price of furnace oil decreased by 0.21 cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will now pay between $1.15 and $1.33 per litre for the fuel.

Stove oil decreased by the same amount across Newfoundland and by 2.37 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. Prices for the fuel now range between $1.20 and $1.38 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.41 and $1.95 per litre in Labrador.

Propane for heating decreased by 2.9 cents per litre, putting prices for the fuel between 94 cents and $1.07 per litre in Newfoundland and between 80 cents and $1.25 per litre in Labrador.
