Garrett Grayson is NOT the Drew Brees successor

Though many New Orleans Saints fans may feel inclined to brush off the season and not worry about the team’s poor play thus far, there is something alarming that is impossible to overlook.

The Garrett Grayson plan is not working so far. The man who’s being groomed to take over for Drew Brees (once the latter retires,) has not shown any signs of progress. This team better start scouting quarterbacks to take with their top pick in 2017.

After going 10-of-16 for 133 yards and one interception against the New England Patriots last week, Grayson failed to show any improvements against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Grayson went an awful four-for-15 for 50 yards and an interception, which came on the final play in the red zone. Awful decision making in a clutch moment suggests that Grayson isn’t going to be ready for prime time any time soon. Brees is 37-years-old and realistically might only have one or two great seasons left.

New Orleans surprised many by not taking a quarterback in the first-round of this year’s draft. But with Grayson playing like a rookie high school player, the Saints can’t ignore it any more. He, as of this moment, is not the successor to the Saints quarterback throne.

It’d be wise for them to find a new quarterback in 2017 and have Brees groom him. Maybe Grayson does pull it together down the road, but for now, I’m going to assume that the team can find someone better.
