Discover some of the leading independent nurseries from the Plant Fairs Roadshow offering an enticing selection of locally grown and unusual plants. This is a great opportunity to buy direct from the growers and to get free advice from the resident ‘Plant Doctor’, who will be on hand to diagnose plant problems and issue advice.

FREE Garden tours at 11.30 and 1.30, included in admission and bookable on the day. Visitors will also be able to gain expert advice on combating plant pests during Pippa Greenwood’s talk ‘Keeping Pests at Bay the Natural Way’. Pippa is a regular panelist on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time. Additional charge applies for the talk. Pre-booking required.

This educational hands-on experience  in the mixed woodland of Holkham’s National Nature Reserve allows visitors to explore the diverse woodlands surrounding the estate and learn about the different fungi species that inhabit it. During the 2-hour guided walk, visitors will get to identify an array of fungi, differentiating the good from the bad, from edible porcini to the scarlet waxy Cap, to the rare tiny earthstar. After a day of exploring, visitors can  relax with a coffee and slice of cake at the The Lookout. Tickets £12, incl refreshments.

Lecture at Denmans Garden

The first annual John Brookes Lecture will be given at Denmans Garden, the recently renovated former home and garden of garden designer John Brookes. Chelsea gold-medal-winning landscape designer Andy Sturgeon will speak on “The Garden In its Setting”.

The lecture celebrates the landscape design legacy of the late John Brookes MBE and discusses the importance of linking gardens to the landscape, architecture, and other features surrounding them.

A small exhibition of John Brookes's work abroad will also be on view, featuring four of his international designs, focusing on how he connected each one to its setting, integrating the surrounding landscape, local vernacular, the clients’ needs, and the surrounding architecture.

Doors open 6pm, garden open until dusk. Pre-booked tickets  £12; tickets on door £15 (incl admission to garden and exhibition).

Guided garden tour

Holkham is offering a wonderful opportunity to be guided through the estate's private gardens by one of Holkham’s most knowledgeable gardeners. The gardens comprise unusual and rare specimen trees resplendent at this time of year with their foliage in an array of autumnal tones. Learn about the work of the Gardens Department at Holkham and how they maintain the intricate patterns of the formal parterres on the terraces, designed by leading landscape gardener W.A Nesfield in the 19th century. Tickets £10 adults and children (2-16 years) £5.
