A mother has appeared in court after the alleged murder of her two-year-old son.

Shannon Kayleigh Ives, 27, is accused of causing or allowing Ethan Ives Griffiths to suffer serious physical harm.

Ethan died in Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool after suffering a head injury in Garden City, Flintshire, in August 2021.

His grandparents have been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

Ms Ives, from Mold, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm and causing the assault, ill treatment, neglect or abandonment of a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.

She was released on conditional bail by the chair of the magistrates Geoff Bull, who told her the case would be sent to Mold Crown Court for a pre-trial hearing on 17 May.

Ethan's grandparents Michael Ives, 46, and Kerry Ives, 45, both from Garden City, have already been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

They are also accused of causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child leading to unnecessary suffering or injury to a child by assault, ill treatment, neglect or abandonment.
