Gangs of London has officially started production on season three with a new creative team.

Based on the video game of the same name, the series has started filming on a new instalment with filmmaker Kim Hong Sun (Project Wolf Hunting) directing and executive producing, and Peter McKenna (Kin) serving as lead writer and executive producer (via Variety).

This third season will see Slow Horses star Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Game of Thrones' Joe Cole reprise their roles as undercover policeman turned gangster Elliot Carter and criminal empire heir Sean Wallace, respectively.

Fully leaning into his criminal ways after infiltrating the Wallace organisation, "Elliot is now operating as a top-level criminal alongside the Dumanis, but their business is thrown into chaos when their shipment of cocaine is spiked, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians all over London," the official synopsis for chapter three reads.

"The ensuing chaos attracts attention from the authorities, putting the gangs of London under pressure like never before and the ripple effects — both personal and professional — will have devastating consequences for everyone from the Wallaces, to Luan, to Lale and the street gangs.

"This was a targeted attack and it's only the beginning, but the question is — who did it and why?"

Created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery, the series was previously helmed by director Corin Hardy, who took over as showrunner for season two.

Speaking with Digital Spy about the twists of the second chapter, Hardy said that Gangs of London is "an unsafe show" in which "characters could go at any moment."

One may only assume the series will continue down the same unpredictable path under the new direction, following Elliot running the city as Sean is behind bars for Koba's (Waleed Zuaiter) murder.

Gangs of London streams on Sky and NOW in the UK. A release date for season 3 is TBA.
