'Game of Thrones' Mini Recap: Guess Who's Back!

UPDATE: Check out our full recap HERE.

Everybody’s favorite character hadn’t appeared alive and well since the end of Season 5, so his eventual return was all we’d been speculating about ever since. But HOW would he come back, and in what condition? Well, after last week’s Season 6 premiere declined to answer that question, this week’s episode “Home” finally came through with the goods. That’s right… The Giant was BACK.

Look at that cutie go! See, just when it seemed like the murderous traitors of Castle Black had cornered Ser Davos and the rest of Jon Snow’s pals, the Wildlings and their most beloved behemoth arrived to straighten things out. “Crowd-pleasing” doesn’t begin to describe this moment. But “Home” wasn’t done wowing us. Because, oh yeah, Jon Snow came back to life also.

After what could only be described as the sexiest corpse softcore in television history, Melisandre somehow found it within herself to resurrect our favorite desiccated heartthrob. Credits rolled before he uttered a single word, so it’s anybody’s guess how Jon Snow’s doing after his dreamless sleep. But his return brings both a sense of relief to loyal viewers, as well as a smug, told-you-so attitude for those of us who never doubted this would happen. Ultimately we can all agree on one thing, though: Melisandre is THE BEST.

In other “Home” news, Blind Arya got the s–t beaten out of her once again, but this time she passed enough tests to be allowed back into training for the House of Black and White. Meanwhile Ramsay Snow pulled a total Ramsay Snow when he murdered his own father, and then sicced bloodthirsty dogs on his now-widowed mother-in-law and her newborn son.

Roose Bolton wasn’t the only father to bite the dust… A mysterious newcomer threw Theon’s father Balon off of a slippery bridge, leaving Pyke without a proper ruler (though Yara Greyjoy would certainly like the job). For his part, Theon parted ways with Sansa after entrusting her safety to Brienne, so expect a very confusing homecoming when Theon finally makes it home.

And in one of the more baffling plotlines, Bran returned! Max von Sydow (most recently seen in another very GoT-heavy production, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) gives face to the ancient magical tree where Bran now lives. Together the two of them time-traveled (perhaps?) to a time when Hodor used to be a boy named Willis.

But it wouldn’t be a terrific episode without some high drama in King’s Landing. After an amusing scene in which ZOMBIE MOUNTAIN murdered a villager who’d been trash-talking Cersei, we discovered that Tommen had been keeping his mother imprisoned in her room to keep her safe. (Aw, it’s the thought that counts.) And Jaime had a riveting encounter with the High Sparrow in which a proverbial line was drawn in the sand. The Lannisters are definitely headed for a battle with the Sparrows, and not a moment too soon.

As you can see, a lot happened and more (Tyrion is a dragon whisperer!), so be sure to check back soon for our full photo recap of “Home”!

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
