Galleria to cease food service on Washington Square

HOLLAND — A dining option with a long history will leave Washington Square in the coming weeks.

Galleria at Washington Square, which became known for Italian favorites as a spinoff of Holland's historic Pereddies, will cease food service after Saturday, May 4. The move comes with the departure of Chef Sacha Ratti.

"What an incredible food journey this has been for us," ownership wrote on social media last week. "We have enjoyed getting to know so many of you, not only as frequent customers, but dear friends."

"It's been difficult to line up high quality chefs consistently enough to cook the food you deserve to eat," the post continued. "For this reason, we have decided to make the difficult decision to close the food and bar service completely at Galleria."

Sacha and his wife, Pamela, purchased Pereddies at 447 Washington Ave. in 2018 from longtime owners Chris and Pia Brown. A year later, the couple closed the restaurant to renovate and seek investors, at one point listing the business for sale.

Then, in the wake of the pandemic, Sacha and Pamela decided to rethink their concept, opting to expand Galleria (which they'd opened in a neighboring storefront) into the former Pereddies.

The original Galleria location was sold and the couple focused their efforts on fresh bread, artwork, wine tastings, classes and — in time — a regular food menu, refocusing on some of the Italiam flavors Pereddies was known for.

"We want to thank you for your loyalty, your suggestions, your compliments and, most importantly, your willingness to try new things," the business wrote last week. "We have been blessed to be surrounded by people who enjoy the experience of food and the pleasure of good fellowship around a dinner table."

Galleria will remain open as a gallery and event space 12-4 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays.
