Galion restaurant inspections: February critical violations

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by the Galion City Health Department in February:

Galion Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, 860 N. Portland Way, Galion, Feb. 2. Chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration (critical). No sanitizer observed. Hand sanitize until repaired. Correct by Feb. 8. Improper use of time as a public health control - 4 hours (critical, corrected during inspection). Cheese sauce out of temperature and the time in lieu of temperature sticker was expired on Jan. 31. Employee discarded and replaced with new product and sticker.

M & S Pizza, 141 S. Jefferson St., Galion, Feb. 2. Working containers of poisonous or toxic materials not properly labeled (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed squirt bottles sitting on bottom shelf of prep table not properly labeled. Label all working containers of chemical cleaners/sanitizers.

Signature HealthCARE of Galion, 935 Rosewood Drive, Galion, Feb. 8. Chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration (critical). Observed Ecolab dish machine not to be sanitizing dishes properly/effectively; chlorine concentration is too low. Repair dish machine. Can wash and rinse in the dish machine but must manually sanitize dishes in the three-compartment sink.

Galion 24 Store, 1492 Ohio 598, Galion, Feb. 9. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS (time/temperature controlled for safety) foods not properly date marked (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed TCS foods not dated as required.

Jen-Cor Food Store, 7792 Ohio 309, Galion, Feb. 14. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed significantly dented can of cream of chicken soup in the back area; can dented on seal. Manager discarded the can of soup.

Three Bean Coffee House LLC, 125 Harding Way East, Galion, Feb. 16. Working containers of poisonous or toxic materials not properly labeled (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed unidentifiable squirt bottle on the table behind the three-compartment sink in back not properly labeled.

China House, 225 Harding Way East, Galion, Feb. 21. Person in charge (PIC) unable to demonstrate knowledge by having no critical violations (critical repeat). Facility had no one who knew food code and from previous reports continue to have same critical violations. Correct by Feb. 28. Food employee(s) did not wash hands when required (critical). Observed male employee change tasks and not wash hands. To prevent contamination which could cause a foodborne illness, wash hands between tasks. Handwashing sink not accessible (critical repeat, corrected during inspection).

Observed lounge chair/cigarette butt can blocking the hand sink. Hand sink shall be accessible at all times to prevent pathogens on hands from contaminating food. Chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration (critical). Observed no sanitizer in the facility. To prevent the growth and transfer of pathogens, sanitizer shall be available to properly sanitize ware, equipment and surfaces. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical). Facility had no dates on TCS foods. To prevent the growth of pathogens which could cause a foodborne illness, TCS foods shall be dated & discarded as required.

1803 Brewery & Taproom, 123 Harding Way East , Galion, Feb. 28. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a spray bottle of sanitizer stored on top of a beer keg in the cooler. PIC immediately moved the spray bottle to the floor of the walkin cooler.

China House, 225 Harding Way East, Galion, Feb. 28. Food employee(s) did not wash hands when required (critical repeat). Observed male employee change tasks and not wash hands.
