Galion motorcyclist dies in two-vehicle crash on Ohio 97 near Ohio 288 Monday

The Mount Gilead Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Monday involving a motorcyclist whose vehicle was struck head-on by a Honda Accord that traveled left of center on Ohio 97.

A 24-year-old man of Galion was operating a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound on Ohio 97 near Ohio 288 in North Bloomfield, Morrow County, at about 4:30 p.m. Kyle S. Jackson, 37, Galion, was operating a 1998 Honda Goldwing motorcycle traveling westbound on Ohio 97, according to a news release from the patrol.

The driver of the Honda Accord traveled left of center after negotiating a curve and struck Jackson's motorcycle head-on, the patrol reports. Jackson was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield where he was pronounced dead.

Jackson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the report, which also notes the driver of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt. He sustained minor injuries.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by Morrow County EMS, Iberia Joint Fire District, Morrow County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
