GA: Statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning

Columbus, Ga (WRBL)- As part of Severe Weather Preparedness week, tomorrow is Tornado Safety day. Tomorrow morning, outdoor warning sirens will activate at 9 a.m. local time in Georgia. Many schools and businesses will be participating in the state-wide tornado drill. So tonight is a great chance to go over safety tips with the family.

  1. Have a safety plan in place. It is important to determine in advance where you will take shelter in case of a tornado warning.

  2. Have a severe weather kit handy. Good things to include in your kit are flashlight, extra batteries, blankets, a weather radio, and extra medications.

  3. Have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Now, while Alabama will NOT be having a statewide tornado drill, they will have the weekly radio test at 9 am local time. Emergency Management encourages people to use this time to prepare and plan ahead.
