Ga. offers $5.8M in incentives for PulteGroup move

Georgia offers $5.8 million in incentives to PulteGroup for relocation

ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia has offered PulteGroup about $5.8 million in state tax incentives and job training as part of the deal bringing the homebuilder's corporate headquarters to Atlanta.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development says a $1.5 million grant for relocation will be awarded through a state program. An estimated tax credit of $3.3 million will be given because the 310 jobs being created are considered high-paying. The company will also receive $1 million in job training offered by the state.

That equals roughly $18,800 per job being created.

The homebuilder said last week it was leaving suburban Detroit to be closer to its customers. PulteGroup's operations in the Southeast made up 37 percent of its home closings in 2012.

Gov. Nathan Deal said the company's investment would reach $10 million.
