GA Gov. Kemp appoints a new District Attorney following Stacey Jackson’s death

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has appointed a new District Attorney for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit following the death of former District Attorney Stacey Jackson.

A news release from the governor’s office late Friday stated that current acting District Attorney Don Kelly will serve as the District Attorney for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit.

Kelly will fill the remainder of Jackson’s term, according to the release.

Kelly took over as acting DA after Jackson took a medical leave in November 2023, according to Ledger-Enquirer reporting.

The announcement comes a day after Jackson’s funeral at Cascade Hills Church Thursday afternoon.

The announcement from the governor’s office also announced the arrival of a new superior court judge for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit.

Carolyn “Tippi” Cain Burch will serve as a Superior Court judge to fill the vacancy created by Ron Mullins resignation, according to the release.
