Future healthcare pros learn about the industry at Freeman MASH Camp

JOPLIN, Mo. — Freeman Health System is hosting the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Around 40 juniors and seniors from Franklin Technology Center dropped by Freeman East for Monday’s MASH Camp.

Students got the chance to explore what a future in the health field might look like for them. They also get a chance to learn about different careers they might not know existed.

“We have different speakers come in, we have different hands-on activities. They also get to see all the tools that they might use in a specific department such as the cultures for the laboratory or some of the medical equipment they use in the operating room,” said Esther Bard, Freeman Health System health care development specialist.

One of the activities was an obstacle relay race – designed to showcase physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Students got a better understanding of what it’s like as a patient who uses medical devices daily.
