Future engineer, quadrilingual track star: Student of the Week, May 13-17

Student of the Week offers schools the chance to celebrate teens who have placed in an art, dance or music competition, excelled in a science fair, won an essay contest, received a scholarship, were recognized for their volunteer service or have shined in some other way.

All high schools in Arizona are invited to nominate students to be included in an online poll where azcentral.com readers vote to choose the Student of the Week.

Student of the Week voting is open from 6 a.m. Monday through noon Thursday. Each week's winner is announced online Friday at 6 a.m.

Meet this week's nominees!

Ezequiel Delgado, senior, Camelback High School

Ezequiel Delgado is a high-performing high school thrower who has captained his team to win the district championship. He has committed to continuing his academic and athletic careers with Paradise Valley Community College next year. Zeke has essentially coached himself for two years and has guided all the other throwers. He is a role model to the entire team, a caring son and brother, and one of the figureheads on our campus; known and loved. He does his best in everything he does and juggles all of his commitments with grace and character.

Nomination submitted by Torunn Anderson, track and field and cross country head coach, Camelback High School.

Arnold Woodlock, sophomore, Central High School

Arnold Woodlock is a second-year engineering science student who has been learning computer-aided design. For our engineering class, the industry certification is the Certified SolidWorks Associate, a challenging exam few high school students pass. Arnold was the first student at Central High to become a certified associate. He got excited about working with SolidWorks from competing in the SkillsUSA State Additive Manufacturing competition at the end of March.

Milandeep (Milan) Kaur, senior, Trevor G. Browne High School

Milandeep Kaur is an exceptional young woman. Being quadrilingual in Punjabi, Hindi, English and Spanish, Milan brings a unique perspective to the classroom. She has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, as evidenced by her participation in AP Capstone. This program requires students to pass a minimum of six college-level courses while still in high school. Milan demonstrates leadership through roles such as president of the National Honors Society, president of Link Crew, and varsity captain for track and field. She also participated in badminton and cross country. Milan will be attending Phoenix College in the fall on a full-ride track scholarship. She has also been awarded a number of additional scholarships.
