Sadly, Death in Paradise is over for another year, and that means we must leave the gorgeous shores of Saint Marie once again - but there are definitely more trips to come!

The BBC has announced that Death in Paradise has been recommissioned for two more series on the same night (Thursday, February 28) as it wrapped up its eighth run.

Returning for the two new series to come will be Ardal O'Hanlon as the Saint Marie Police Department's lead detective Jack Mooney, plus veteran cast members Tobi Bakare (JP Hooper), Shyko Amos (Ruby Patterson), Don Warrington (Commissioner Selwyn Patterson) and Elizabeth Bourgine (Catherine Bordey).

Also joining the squad full-time will be Aude Legastelois as new recruit Madeleine Dumas, who replaced the recently-departed veteran cast member Joséphine Jobert for the final two episodes of the series.

“I’m thrilled that I’ve been given the opportunity to continue my role as Madeleine and to rejoin the cast of Death in Paradise," Aude said tonight (February 28).

"I can’t wait for Madeleine to be fully integrated into the Honoré Police team and for the viewers to get to know her further.”

The new commission is yet more proof of Death in Paradise being able to weather the storm of cast departures, with Danny John-Jules and the aforementioned Joséphine Jobert having both left the show this past year.

Series nine and ten returning cast member Tobi Bakare admitted to Digital Spy this week that Jobert's departure mid-series made him feel like "a big chunk had been taken" from the show.

"Me and Josie started in the same year – we started in season four," Bakare said. "Though she started a couple of episodes before me, we were still getting to know the whole thing [together]. We were still learning.

"We'd grown such a great relationship over the last five years on the show. This was on and off screen, as well. So it did feel like a big chunk had been taken from my Death in Paradise experience."

Death in Paradise continues next year on BBC One.
