SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Riley Strain’s funeral services are set for Friday in Springfield, Missouri.

Strain, a University of Missouri student, went missing earlier this month in Nashville, Tennessee, and was found dead on March 22 after a two-week search.

A missionary for Pope Francis is now offering to pay for all of Strain’s funeral costs. “Father Jim” says he does random acts of kindness. Through social media, “Father Jim” was able to connect with Strain’s family and offered to pay for his funeral expenses.

According to Strain’s obituary, a visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greenlawn Funeral Home. A celebration of life ceremony will follow the visitation. His family has asked visitors to wear green for the funeral because it was his favorite color.

A private burial service will be held at a later time.

Strain disappeared while on a fraternity trip on March 8 in Nashville, Tennessee. Around 9:30 p.m. that night, he was escorted out of a downtown Nashville bar. Strain told his friends he was headed back to the hotel, but he never made it.

Police do not suspect foul play in his death. One autopsy determined his death to be accidental, though his family is requesting a second autopsy.

Family members remember Strain as outgoing, “a great kid” and much more than a “college kid having fun.”
