Fundraising underway for wife of Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy who died unexpectedly

Fundraising is underway for the wife of a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy who died unexpectedly this week.

Jes Edeburn “is now facing the unimaginable: raising her son without her beloved husband by her side,” her fellow teachers in Edina High School’s English department wrote on GoFundMe. The couple’s son was born in February.

“As Jes navigates this heartbreaking loss, we hope to relieve some of her anxiety about the future by raising funds for her and Bennett,” the fundraising site says. People had contributed more than $25,000 as of early Thursday evening.

Dallas Edeburn, 30, left the Arden Hills patrol station on Sunday and the sheriff’s office learned Monday he hadn’t returned home as expected.

Edeburn’s unmarked squad was found on Minnesota 610 near Noble Parkway in Brooklyn Park on Monday morning. The vehicle had slid into a guardrail, though it wasn’t an accident that would cause the death of the driver, said Brooklyn Park Deputy Chief Mark Bruley.

Edeburn was deceased in his vehicle. A preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma or injury, and his cause of his death remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. The medical examiner’s office is conducting testing and it’s expected to take weeks before results are back.

In March 2021, Edeburn was seriously injured when his squad was struck by a stolen vehicle driven by a man fleeing from police. Edeburn’s squad rolled multiple times and a fellow deputy, with the assistance of a New Brighton officer, dragged Edeburn to safety just before his squad was engulfed in flames.

The crash happened weeks after Edeburn and his wife were married.

“In a year and a half of marriage, Jes and Dallas shared more hardships and joys than many couples experience in a lifetime,” Jes Edeburn’s colleagues wrote. “… Jes cared for him as he recovered from his injuries, being the relentless cheerleader for him that she has always been for her friends, family, and students.”
