PETOSKEY — Organizers are planning to make this year’s Fourth of July celebrations in Petoskey bigger and better than ever, but they need support from the community to make that happen.

The Sunrise Rotary Club of Petoskey, who are organizing the Fourth of July celebration for the fourth year, are looking for donations and volunteers to help make the holiday festivities a success.

“We’ve already made a commitment for a 25 percent increase in our fireworks show this year,” said Carlin Smith, co-chair of the Fourth of July committee. “We put the deposit down for that. So it puts a little more fundraising pressure on us but we went from a $20,000 show to a $25,000 show this year.”

On top of the fireworks, other expenses like the parade and live entertainment means the club needs to raise around $36,000.

“It’s always hard to raise enough money for the Fourth of July and to do an increase in our show is going to put even more pressure on us this year, so we’re really pleading for the community to come out and support us,” Smith said. “If they enjoy the Fourth of July and enjoy the fireworks show and the parade and the entertainment, we hope that they will make a donation to help support that.”
