Funding for Hillsboro Hops Stadium heads to vote

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Hillsboro Hops are one step closer to rounding the bases and getting millions for a new stadium as a funding bill is headed to the House and Senate for a vote.

The current Hillsboro stadium, Ron Tonkin Field, doesn’t meet MLB standards, lacking a visiting team clubhouse and women’s locker rooms, among other things.

House Bill 5201 was returned to the House Ways and Means Committee and approved with amendments Wednesday.

The bill would authorize the state treasury to give $15 million to the Hillsboro Hops, allowing them to build their new stadium.

Since it passed the committee Wednesday, with all voting in favor except one who was absent, the bill now needs to pass the House and Senate.
