This fumble by Western Kentucky's punter might be the worst play of the season

A lot of college football teams give their punters some options.

If the receiving team doesn’t really rush the punter or pay him any attention, in some instances, the punter has the option to take off and try to run for the first down. It looks like Western Kentucky’s Jake Collins had that option Friday night against Florida International, but just couldn’t decide what to do.

Instead of running or punting, he did this:

Oh my goodness.

Where do we start? Once it became clear Collins wasn’t going to run, he needed to either get that kick away or just get down before FIU’s Jordan Guest, No. 57, could knock the ball loose.

But Collins’ brain just completely stopped working. He lost his balance. He dropped the ball. He tried to bat the ball forward to a teammate.

None of it worked.

FIU’s D’Vonte Price scooped up the loose ball and ran 38 yards for a touchdown to increase his team’s lead to 34-17 in an eventual 41-17 win.

And Collins gave us one of the lowlights of the season.
