Full Disney movie schedule to 2020 and beyond
Grab your calendar, and take out a bank loan – here's what you're doing for the next three years. Disney has announced what it plans to bring to the big screen and when, as well as teasing us with several projects that aren't yet dated.
Remember – Disney is an absolute powerhouse which includes Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm so that's everything in the Avengers universe, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Pirates, Toy Story, Cars and the live-action animation remakes.
It's time to start salivating.
2018
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2
The retro-gaming animation is back for a sequel – who knows what nostalgic characters will pop up next? Released on November 21 in the US, and on November 30 in the UK.
The Nutcracker and The Four Realms
Keira Knightley is set to play the Sugar Plum Fairy in this live action adaptation of the Christmas story. Lasse Hallstrom, who made Chocolat, will direct. It's released on October 26 in the UK and on November 2 in the US.
Mary Poppins Returns
With Emily Blunt already cast as Mary Poppins in the live-action remake of the original, this is set to be a cracker. It will be released in the US on December 19 and in the UK on December 21.
2019
Captain Marvel
A female-led Marvel superhero film FINALLY hits our screens when Captain Marvel comes to theatres on International Women's Day – March 8, 2019.
Dumbo
Tim Burton will direct this live-action adaptation of the story of the big-eared flying Elephant. Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Colin Farrell will all appear. Expected on March 29, 2019.
Avengers 4
The untitled Infinity War follow-up – featuring Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson and more recognisable faces – will be out on April 26, 2019 in the UK, and May 3, 2019 in the US.
Aladdin
Guy Ritchie will direct this live-action version of the Disney classic. The cast has been announced as Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine, with Will Smith taking on the role of The Genie. The project has been given Star Wars Episode 9's originally rumoured release date of May 24, 2019.
Toy Story 4
Yep, they're doing another one. The plot will be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep, and it directed by Josh Cooley. It's expected in US cinemas on June 21, 2019.
The Lion King
Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau will be bringing a live action version of this classic to the big screen. Donald Glover will voice Simba, with James Earl Jones as Mustafa, while Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner will be Pumbaa (the warthog) and Timon (the meerkat), with John Oliver recently confirmed as overly-officious red-billed hornbill Zazu. It's heading to you on July 19, 2019.
Artemis Fowl
This adaptation of Eoin Colfer's fab fantasy which teams an Irish criminal mastermind with a fairy LEPrecon officer to defeat an evil pixie (it's really good, honestly) will be directed by Kenneth Branagh. No cast has been announced yet - it's currently in pre-production and set for a release date of August 9, 2019.
Noelle
Anna Kendrick stars as Santa's daughter who has to take over the family business after dad retires in this fairytale which is currently in pre-production - Bill Hader is set to co-star. Marc Lawrence will direct - he's the guy who wrote Miss Congeniality and directed Two Weeks Notice. Expect it in cinemas on November 8, 2019.
Frozen 2
There's no way Disney was going to (ahem) let this one go, after the massive success of the first Frozen. Anna and Elsa will be back to serenade us on November 27, 2019.
Star Wars Episode 9
Yep, another Star Wars movie – with the details about this one still a way off. What we do know, though, is it will no longer be directed by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow – he left the project over creative differences and The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams is back. Episode 9, like that movie and eighth instalment The Last Jedi, will open near Christmas – on December 20, 2019.
2020
Mulan
Following the success of the live-action version of Cinderella, Disney announced loads of other cartoons were being made into real-life productions, too. However, Mulan slipped two years from its original 2018 release and will now arrive on March 27, 2020.
Maleficent 2
Angelina Jolie is back as Sleeping Beauty's misunderstood antagonist along with Elle Fanning, Sam Riley and newcomers Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It will be released on May 29, 2020.
Jungle Cruise
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will be making a movie based on Disneyland ride Jungle Cruise, which slipped from 2019 to its current July 24, 2020 release date.

Untitled Indiana Jones sequel
Or 'Indiana Jones 5' as we like to call it. Spielberg is directing, Harrison Ford is returning, but after that your guess is as good as ours. The film has slipped a year and will now be released in cinemas on July 9, 2021.
