Ft. Lee celebrates its Universal Studios roots

FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) — The Fort Lee Film Commission is celebrating the birth of Universal Studios as the studio marks its centennial.

The commission is reminding film buffs that the world famous studio got its start in northern New Jersey.

An official reception will be held Saturday at the Fort Lee Museum showcasing rare archival photos and artifacts from Universal's two original studios in Fort Lee.

The commission says even the film term "cliffhanger" originated from early serials that were filmed on the Palisades in Fort Lee.

The museum has been hosting a series of movie screenings and events in recent months to mark Universal's 100th birthday.
