Frontier Airlines notifies about 700 employees outside of Denver it will outsource their jobs
DENVER (AP) -- Frontier Airlines has told about 700 employees nationwide it will be outsourcing their jobs to other employers, which will affect all of its destinations except Denver International Airport.
About 60 percent of Frontier's airport stations are staffed by employees from other companies. Tuesday's announcement will impact gate, ticket counter and ramp employees at the remaining 28 locations.
"We need to take every reasonable measure to ensure the future stability and viability of our company and to keep our costs low for our customers," airline spokeswoman Kate O'Malley said in a statement Wednesday.
The low-cost carrier has recently been through bankruptcy, relocated its headquarters back to Denver from Indianapolis and instituted a new policy penalizing customers who do not book their flights on the airline's website.
Outsourcing jobs will not compromise customer service, O'Malley said. The other employees will receive the same Frontier training as current employees, she said.
Frontier will also work with the other companies to help their employees apply for their jobs with a new employer, the Denver Post (http://tinyurl.com/b9lkoyl ) reported.
There was no immediate reaction from employees or their representatives.
