Froggy 101 hosts ‘NEPA’s Smallest St. Patrick’s Parade’

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— What may have been NEPA’s smallest St. Patrick’s Parade took place Friday morning in Luzerne County.

28/22 News Reporter Sydney Kostus attended the event and has more on what started the idea that brought the community together.

The Bus Stop Cafe in Nanticoke looked a little different Friday morning. Decked out in all green ahead of a special holiday this weekend.

It also has Froggy 101’s Chewy and Crockett. The duo was preparing for the first “NEPA’s Smallest St. Patrick’s Parade.”

“If we can get out and help the community or just make everybody’s day a little better, that’s what we want to do,” Crockett explained.

Taking only two weeks to plan, city officials say they were honored to host the event.

“We were thrilled to be the first to have this so we were really excited to have them come to our city,” said Kevin Coughlin, Nanticoke mayor Nanticoke City.

But what was the reason behind the parade?

“I don’t think we need a why! I think it’s just something that we want to celebrate. We want to celebrate Irish heritage, we want to celebrate the city of Nanticoke, you know we want to just hang out and have a good time. Celebrate everybody that lives here,” added Chewy Medek, co-host of “The Doc Show” at Froggy 101.

Crowds gathered to take part, watching nine vehicles make their way around patriots square.

“If the city’s doing something exciting, you need to show up so we can see it. Even if it stays small but well attended, that’s what really matters,” said Maryann Lang, Nanticoke resident.

Finishing the lap in just six minutes and 55 seconds, the smiles were contagious for the small event.

“People in town, you know, they’re craving for something positive and for things to happen. This is a great idea, I’m glad Froggy picked us to do this little event. I mean I know it’s not big, but it doesn’t have to be big to be great,” Councilman Kenny James told 28/22 News.

Friday also marked Chewy Medek’s birthday!
