Frisco home catches fire after lightning strike, officials say

FRISCO, Texas - A family lost pretty much everything after a house fire in Frisco Thursday that was likely caused by a lightning strike.

Nobody was home when it happened, but a grandmother and her family — including six grandchildren who live there — are devastated.

The fire department says the entire attic structure was taken over by flames. No one was home at the time, and now they’re mostly forced to start from scratch.

There’s now a gaping hole where the roof of a Frisco home was after it was torched by an apparent lightning strike fire.

Linda Glover was having a medical procedure on her back Thursday morning. A family member broke the devastating news.

"And when I got out, that’s when they told me my house was on fire," she recalled. "I was crying hysterically that I lost the house and lost everything in it."

Glover says she’s been renting the home for the past five years. Ten people live inside, including six grandchildren.  Most of their belongings are destroyed.

"Everything in our house got damaged except for the Bible," she said.

The Frisco Fire Department says, according to a witness who called 911, the home was struck by lightning.

"Lightning strikes are frequent this time of year," said Frisco Deputy Fire Chief Jake Leeper.

No one was home at the time.

The official cause is under investigation.

"That’s what the fire investigators will help determine along with the insurance companies," Leeper said.

"But we’re getting by with the community," Glover said. "Community has came by and helped us tremendously."

The family’s church, Eternity Community Church, is paying for hotel rooms. Someone from the grandkid’s school is organizing a GoFundMe.

A neighbor who facilitates disaster cleanup for a living is lending his services.

As far as a home goes, the family will start over.

"We just thank God that we’re still here, that we’re alive," Glover said. "This is material things, you know. And we can get that back."

However, their collective attitude is a bit brighter, knowing they are not alone.

"That’s what this shows me when everybody pulls in that God is still on our side," Glover said.

A dog was inside the home and was transported to a vet clinic by the fire department. No firefighters were injured during the response.
