Suspect surrenders to police after almost 6-hour standoff in Fresno neighborhood

Police blocked off a neighborhood in southeast Fresno on Thursday afternoon after a suspect refused to leave a home when law enforcement attempted to serve a federal warrant.

The U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force attempted around 2 p.m. to serve a 38-year-old man at a house on the 4000 block of East Madison Avenue, near Belmont and Cedar avenues.

Nearly four hours later, the man still refused to come out of the home.

By 7:41 p.m., the standoff came to an end after the suspect surrendered without incident. Lt. Sean Biggs said the man had been hiding in the attic the majority of the time.

Officers had surrounded the house during the standoff.

Due to the suspect’s weapons history, law enforcement staged in the area with a SWAT tactical vehicle and attempted to communicate with the man via loudspeaker.

Neighbors in nearby homes were evacuated.
