From freezer to flood, busted pipes cause roof issues at Little Rock daycare

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Little Rock daycare has faced a string of challenges caused by recent weather.

Kiddies Academy of Little Rock had extensive damage from pipes busting throughout the building last Tuesday and now, the roof damage is worsening as rain begins pouring in. Abbey Oluwa with the daycare said she was thankful no one was harmed.

“I was thankful that there was no one here,” Oluwa said. “I believe that everything can be replaced, but lives cannot be replaced.”

The facility is being completely gutted and remodeled. Over $120,000 of equipment and supplies have already been ordered.

Oluwa said she is ready to be back in her place of peace soon with her kids and teachers surrounding her.

“We hope that at no point should the learning be physically interrupted,” Oluwa said. “Of course, the kids will not be in their comfortable environment, but hopefully, they’ll be happy to see each other and see their teachers again.”

While she has had her moments, she said she is trying to stay strong for the kids and continue to teach them.

“Learning at every moment is key. I wanted them to see what natural disaster can do and why they are not in their building,” Oluwa said.

They are currently looking for a temporary location that could fulfill their needs and house their 150 kids.
