The Centre Daily Times is preparing for a major change in the next few weeks, as we embark on a new chapter in our coverage of the Centre County community. Starting June 17, we will move to a two-day-a-week print schedule — Wednesdays and Sundays — as we transition to a 24/7 digital product.

We know it’s an adjustment for you and we know you have questions.

So, we’d like to invite you — our loyal subscribers — to an in-person discussion about this important transition and to learn more about Centre Daily Times digital offerings, including our new Edition.

We are hosting a free, in-person, informational session and Q&A on from 6-8 p.m. May 8, at SpringBoard, 221 W. High St., Suite 1300, Bellefonte.

There’s a real appetite for a fintech alternative to QuickBooks
The prospects for troubled banking-as-a-service (BaaS) startup Synapse went from bad to worse last week when a U.S. Trustee filed an emergency motion asking to convert the company’s debt reorganization Chapter 11 bankruptcy into a liquidation Chapter 7 due to “gross mismanagement” of its estate. There seems to be a real appetite for an alternative to QuickBooks, the legacy accounting alternative for SMBs, judging by the attention this story on Layer’s $2.3 million raise received. Its customers are those working with small and medium-sized businesses to offer accounting and bookkeeping features inside their own products.

Conservative cell carrier Patriot Mobile hit by data breach
U.S. cell carrier Patriot Mobile experienced a data breach that included subscribers’ personal information, including full names, email addresses, home ZIP codes and account PINs, TechCrunch has learned. Patriot Mobile, which reportedly has fewer than 100,000 subscribers, bills itself as “America’s only Christian conservative wireless provider and our mission is to passionately defend our God-given Constitutional rights and freedoms while glorifying God.” A hacker who claimed responsibility for the breach provided TechCrunch with a sample of data stolen from Patriot Mobile.

GitHub Copilot gets extensions
Build is Microsoft's largest developer conference and of course, it's all about AI this year. As the name suggests, Copilot Extensions allow developers to extend Copilot with third-party skills. Microsoft wants to make its brand of generative AI more useful for teams -- specifically teams across corporations and large enterprise organizations. This morning at its annual Build dev conference, Microsoft announced Team Copilot, the latest expansion of its Copilot family of generative AI tech. Unlike Microsoft's previous Copilot-branded products, Team Copilot isn't so much a point solution as a set of capabilities together aimed at "improving collaboration" and "streamlining project management."
