Free pet vaccines, adoptions at Wag and Wheels

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Josh Proctor from the Bakersfield Animal Care Center joined 17 News at Sunrise to share about the second annual Wag and Wheels Event happening Saturday.

The event offers free pet adoptions and free pet vaccines while also featuring a car show and vendors. This will take place at the Bakersfield Animal Care Center at 201 S. Mount Vernon Ave. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Events like these underscore the greater need to tackle Kern’s Dog Crisis, with public agencies overwhelmed by the sheer number of dogs entering shelters.

Proctor also noted the importance on vaccinations for pets this time of year, with the wet spring weather bringing increased chances of water-borne diseases such as parvo, distemper, giardia, mycoplasma and coccidia.
