Frederick police investigate downtown incident that left man injured

Frederick police are looking for information about an incident downtown early Friday morning that left a man with serious injuries.

Officers responded to a call around 1 a.m. Friday for a shooting in the 200 block of North Market Street, police spokeswoman Samantha Long wrote in a text message Friday.

They found a man with severe head injuries, but the injuries were not consistent with a firearm, Long wrote.

The man was taken to Frederick Health Hospital to be treated for his injuries, and police are investigatingthe cause of the injuries.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, but it was unclear Friday whether the noise or the sight of the victim prompted them to report the incident as a shooting, Long wrote.

No shell casings or other indication of a gun being discharged were found in the area, she wrote.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact the Frederick Police Department at 301-600-2102.
