Frederick man killed in I-270 crash in Montgomery County

Maryland State Police said a Frederick man driving a dump truck was killed in a crash in Montgomery County on Monday morning.

Rodney Lee Gibson, 54, of Frederick, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on southbound Interstate 270 at Md. 109 around 10:10 a.m., according to a state police news release.

The Md. 109 exit is near Clarksburg.

Police said Gibson’s dump truck and a 2019 Ford Transit were involved in a crash, after which the dump truck struck a bridge abutment and overturned into a ravine.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the release.
