Franklin woman, 31, killed in Route 27 crash, police say

FRANKLIN (Somerset) – A 31-year-old township woman died after her vehicle crashed into a tree on Route 27 near Reler Lane Thursday morning.

The driver was identified as Kristen Drayton, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather.

Drayton was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. due to the extent of her injuries in the crash, police said.

Around 9:07 a.m. May 9, the Franklin Township Police Department received a 911 call about a crash involving a vehicle traveling southbound that struck a tree on Route 27 near Reler Lane, police said.

Police, firefighters and EMS responded to the scene where they located Drayton.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

A section of Route 27 was closed for about four hours following the crash.
