Franklin police share safety tips amid uptick in ‘bank jugging’ cases

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – After investigating multiple “bank jugging” cases over the last few months, Franklin authorities are urging community members to be cautious when withdrawing money from a bank or ATM.

According to officials, suspects will watch ATMs and banks, follow someone who withdrew cash to their next destination, and then either rob the victim or burglarize their car.

In one recent case, the Franklin Police Department said $4,000 was stolen from a vehicle after someone visited a bank and left their cash inside the car.

Authorities said vigilance is key to not becoming a victim of “bank jugging” and shared the following safety tips:

  • When at the bank or ATM, be aware of your surroundings and look for any suspicious activity.

  • If you’re driving and believe you’re being followed, either call 911 or find a nearby law enforcement agency or officer.

  • When your vehicle is parked, do not leave valuables inside.

  • Make sure your vehicle is locked and the windows are up.
