Franklin County elementary school gets makeover

WAYNESBORO, Pa. (WHTM) – Some elementary schoolers have a new library in Franklin County, thanks in part to you.

Several months ago, we let you know Mowrey Elementary was participating in a makeover contest, and you could vote for them.

They were one of 12 finalists in the national contest put on by KI, a furniture maker.

Well, they won!

“It was really cool, like these puzzle pieces, they move around,” Noemi Fahnestock, 4th grader, said. “We can have a lot more people like moving around the room and I think it will cause less trouble for Miss Smith.”

“It’s the center, it’s the heartbeat of the school,” Jennifer Smith, the school’s librarian said. “I can have two to three different lessons going at the same time because of the diversity in our class and it’s amazing to be able to have the furniture to meet those needs now.”

Smith says the redesign also works better for autistic and life skills students, who make up 10% of the student body.
