Franken on Gorsuch’s ‘frozen trucker’ opinion: ‘That’s absurd’

On March 21 during Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Sen. Al Franken asked Gorsuch about his “frozen trucker” opinion, a case in which a trucker was fired after his trailer broke down in subzero temperatures. Gorsuch concluded it wasn’t illegal for the company to fire him for seeking safety when he began to lose feeling in his body after waiting hours for help. Franken told Gorsuch, “That’s absurd. … I had a career in identifying absurdity, and I know it when I see it, and it makes me question your judgment.”
