France's Freedom Flame Arrives in Portsmouth on Journey to US for D-Day 80 The Freedom Flame arrived in Portsmouth on Tuesday, May 14, as part of its journey from France to Arlington, Virginia, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Footage recorded by @rosst97 shows a Brittany Ferries vessel carrying the flame accompanied by a flotilla. The Freedom Flame, or Flamme de la Liberte, was lit from the Flame of the Nation, which has been burning since 1923 by the tomb of the unknown soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
