France to provide Ukraine with 78 Caesar howitzers

France plans to deliver 78 Caesar self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine and will increase ammunition supplies to meet the needs of the Ukrainian military, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on March 26, according to AP.

According to Lecornu, France aims to transfer 80,000 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine this year.

He noted that the existing defense cooperation agreement between France, Ukraine, and Denmark regarding the funding for Caesar howitzers would allow Paris to deliver them “quickly.”

The minister added that France is involved in the Czech-led program to procure hundreds of thousands of artillery munitions for Ukraine from non-EU countries.

On February 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a 10-year security cooperation agreement.

On March 12, the French parliament overwhelmingly supported the security deal.
