FOX21 Storm Team visits King Elementary for Science night

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Once a year the teachers and staff at King Elementary School in Colorado Springs put together a ‘Science Engagement’ night for students and their families to enjoy. The FOX21 Storm Team was invited out to participate in the event and had just as much fun as the students did.

Meteorologists Megan Montero and Ryan Matoush took the Storm Squatch to the elementary school with several additional weather-related objects to share with everyone. They brought along with them a weather balloon, a radiosonde, a tornado in a bottle, some weather worksheets and live TV equipment for all to learn about.

The night also included participation from other science related partners across the community including organizations such as the Humane Society, Discovery Center, Colorado Springs Utilities, Hakuna Matata Farms and Cool Science, just to name a few. Each partner had their own station and area to share their focus of science.

Some of the other experiences around the school included activities like exploring animal bones/anatomy, working with water and bubbles, learning a fun way to code using robot cars, having fun with mining for certain minerals in sand, and even a planetarium for students to interact with.

Clearly Meteorologist Ryan Matoush really enjoyed learning about the animals…
