Fox News’ Shannon Bream on ‘Volatile’ Scene at Supreme Court: Protesters Were ‘Getting Physical’
Fox News anchor Shannon opened up on Tuesday about the “volatile” scene she encountered with anti-Fox protesters on the steps of the Supreme Court Monday night after President Trump announced Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“People were jostling around, getting physical. People were standing behind me while I was trying to do live shots. It was pretty unnerving,” she told TheWrap. “I felt unsure at some point. There was one guy wearing a mask standing behind us. He wouldn’t move.”
As the protests continued, Bream said she began to grow more concerned — eventually scrapping a plan to shoot “Fox News @ Night” from outside the Supreme Court building and instead move to the network’s Washington, D.C., studio.
“There were people who were screaming and angry and pressing in on us,” she said. “People were very passionate and emotional.”

Bream, who had been broadcasting from the court since 8:30 a.m., said she and her Fox News team were targeted by many protesters. “There were people who were screaming at us and were clearly not Fox fans,” she told TheWrap. “A small group of people who were yelling and getting in our faces, were saying things that were anti-Fox.”
Bream said barricades separating protesters from media — typical during most other high-profile moments at the high court — were not in place Monday night.
“I want to sing the praises of the U.S. Supreme Court police because they’re always fantastic. They always do a good job,” she said “But last night the barriers weren’t there.”
Reps for the Supreme Court police did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap about why the barriers were not present.

On Monday, Bream had tweeted about how fears for her and her crew’s safety prompted her to change her broadcast plans.
“Very few times I’ve felt threatened while out in the field. The mood here tonight is very volatile. Law enforcement appears to be closing down 1st Street in front of SCOTUS,” she said. “Literally had to bail on our live show from #SCOTUS. Moving the show back to the safety of the studio.
