HOWELL TWP. — A local man was transported to the hospital in critical condition following a three-vehicle crash in Howell Township on Thursday.

Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office were dispatched shortly before 2:30 p.m. to reports of a multiple vehicle injury crash at the intersection of E. Grand River Ave. and Owosso Road.

Preliminary investigation showed a 2011 Mercedes Benz SUV was traveling south on Owosso Road when the driver failed to yield at the intersection. The Benz was struck by a 2005 Toyota Camry that had been traveling west on Grand River Ave.

The Camry was forced into the eastbound lane of travel, where it was struck by a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the Benz, a 20-year-old Westland man, was uninjured. The driver of the Camry, a 66-year-old Fowlerville man, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was extricated by fire personnel and transported to the University of Michigan Hospital by Livingston County EMS.

The driver of the Silverado, a 58-year-old Fowlerville woman, was uninjured. Her occupant, an 81-year-old Fowlerville woman, was transported to St. Joseph Livingston Hospital as a precautionary measure and treated for minor abrasions.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, according to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. All four involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. The road was closed for approximately four hours for investigation and clean-up.
