Four-vehicle accident in south Grand Forks sends several to hospital

May 22—Grand Forks police were called to an injury accident involving four vehicles Saturday morning, May 22, at the intersection of 17th Avenue South and Cherry Street.

Reports indicated the striking vehicle had left the scene southbound on Cherry Street, according to a news release from the police department. A short time later, a report came in that the vehicle was now stopped three blocks south at Campbell Drive and Cherry Street.

Officers came on scene quickly and located the striking vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet pickup. The driver of that vehicle, Austin Bicker, 18, of Grand Forks, was located and taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital, police said.

Bicker is charged with DUI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Disobeying a Judicial Order. He was released from the hospital and brought to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center on those charges.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Bicker was traveling north on Cherry Street and ran the stop sign, striking a westbound 2000 GMC pickup on the driver's side. The GMC and the Bicker vehicle then struck the front of a 2013 Kia Sorento that was traveling south on Cherry Street. The force of the collision pushed the Kia backwards into a 2011 Honda van.

Several people were transported by ambulance or private vehicle to Altru Hospital.

Assisting on the call were the Grand Forks Fire Department, Altru Ambulance, the regional UAS (unmanned aircraft system) team, and several investigators from the Grand Forks Police Department.
