Four places to look for Peyton Manning when he's in Knoxville for Vols vs. UGA football

Peyton Manning is hot right now. His Manningcast is reshaping football broadcasting, and Forbes magazine says his Sweetens Cove "may lead to the next phase of the Bourbon Boom."

But Knoxvillians have been in on his charms for decades. It's always a big deal when The Sheriff comes back to Rocky Top.

Peyton, of course, played quarterback for Tennessee from 1994-97. He said he'll attend Saturday's much-anticipated game between his beloved Tennessee Vols and the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

We're all got a little cabin fever after this long pandemic, and there's no shame in wanting to get out and catch a glimpse of one of our fave celebrities. Here's where to look for Peyton in Knoxville this weekend.

His bar, Saloon 16, is fair game

In 2019, the Graduate Knoxville hotel opened along the Strip with Peyton as a creative partner.

The hotel is a "love letter" to Knoxville and the centerpiece is Saloon 16, a bar full of memorabilia from UT and The Sheriff. Peyton wasn't shy about saying he shaped it as a place where he'd personally hang out.

"It’s a good location on campus and it should be perfect for football weekends. It’s kind of a fun partnership and project and I’m looking forward to it, that’s where I’ll be hanging out when I’m back (in Knoxville),” he told Knox News.

Get a decent spot at the Vol Walk, just in case

In 2017, Peyton joined the Vol Walk with his son before the Tennessee-Georgia game (interesting coincidence!) before he was honored at halftime for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

That appearance was all part of an orchestrated UT celebration of all things Peyton but, hey, we've all had a tough year and a half so a surprise visit would be more than welcome.

In the Vol Walk, players and coaches start at the Volunteer Torch at Circle Park before continuing down (ahem) Peyton Manning Pass and then turning left onto Phillip Fulmer Way to Gate 21A at Neyland Stadium. The walk kicks off at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Check out Gus's Good Times Deli during the quieter hours

First off, if you haven't been to Gus's Good Times Deli, you have to make the pilgrimage to the loveable dive. It's feel-good food right on campus.

Peyton makes no secret that he holds a special place in his heart for the college hangout. Football players get really hungry, after all.

It's at 815 Melrose Place just off of Cumberland Avenue near campus. Things get wild there before and after homes games, so you might want to steer clear of those hours, but don't worry — Gus's is open until really late at night.

Get fancy in the Neyland Stadium suites

If you have a friend with access to a skybox, now might be a good time to call in a favor. Neyland Stadium's luxury suites have a common lounge with a super fancy buffet. Rumor has it there's a dessert station featuring orange and white M&Ms.

The suite lounge is a place to see and be seen among the VFLs. From UT administrators to elected officials to corporate executives to former players, it's basically Knoxville's elite melting pot.

Sure, Peyton is known to hang on the sideline during games, but the guy's gotta get hungry at some point, right?
