Four people and dog injured in multi-vehicle collision near Balboa Park: SDPD

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Three adults, a child and a dog were injured in a multi-vehicle collision near Balboa Park Sunday morning, according to San Diego police.

The crash was reported near the intersection of Balboa Drive and El Prado around 11 a.m. According to SDPD, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving calls of a speeding car that crashed into several other vehicles, including two parked vehicles.

The impact of the collision sent at least one vehicle into a grassy area where police say parkgoers were relaxing. Fortunately, SDPD said no one was hit.

Those who sustained injuries were all in vehicles involved in the crash. The child was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital as a precaution, while one of the drivers involved in the crash went to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two adults also sustained minor injuries, but it is unknown if they needed to be taken to a nearby hospital. It is also unclear whether the individuals were all in the same vehicle at the time of the collision.

“We’re very fortunate that more people weren’t injured,” SDPD Lt. Arturo Swadener told FOX 5/KUSI. “The vehicle traveled through, there were a lot of people laying out. So we’re fortunate that there weren’t any more serious injuries.”

SDPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. At this stage, authorities say they do not believe driving under the influence played a role in the crash.
