Four people displaced after fire damages Petersburg apartment house

PETERSBURG − Authorities are investigating the cause of a late-night fire Saturday that destroyed an apartment house.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation, but there were no other serious injuries from the blaze, which broke out shortly before 10 p.m. in the 300 block of North Crater Road. Four people who lived in the apartment house have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

First-responders saw flames coming from the rear of the two-story dwelling. It was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

The fire marshal declared the house inhabitable as a result of the fire. No damage value was reported.
