Four hurt in crash that closed down Route 101 for several hours

Apr. 23—CANDIA CRASH

4 injured, 1 seriously, in Route 101 accident —A3

An early-morning crash on Route 101 in Candia left four people hurt and closed the eastbound road for about three hours Tuesday, state police said.

A woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital, authorities said.

The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. when the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control and traveled into the median. The vehicle then struck a raised rock cutout, dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes, and then rolled over multiple times, according to police.

After the vehicle came to rest in the middle of the eastbound lanes, it was sideswiped by another vehicle whose driver was unable to see the disabled car in the road, police said.

A female passenger in the Camry sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to Boston.

The driver and two other passengers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, police said.

The identities of the occupants were being withheld Tuesday, pending notifications to next of kin and further investigation.
