Four CMPD officers injured in east Charlotte shootout released from hospital

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — All of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers injured in the April 29 shootout have been released from the hospital, the agency reported Tuesday.

In addition to the CMPD officer killed in the east Charlotte incident, four others sustained injuries: Chris Tolley, Michael Giglio, Jack Blowers and Justin Campbell.

“We are grateful to be able to share that as of yesterday, all CMPD officers injured in the tragic incident on Monday, April 29, 2024, have been discharged from the hospital and are now at home, embarking on their journey to recovery,” CMPD said in a statement on social media.

The officers were providing aid to a U.S. Marshals Task Force serving a warrant on Galway Drive. Four total law enforcement officers died from the gunfire in addition to suspect Terry Hughes Jr.

The injured officers were being cared for at local Atrium Health and Novant Health facilities.

“You were our heroes when our officers needed help the most,” CMPD continued. “We appreciate and are grateful for the continued service provided over the past week. We continue to be overwhelmed daily by the support and kindness shown. Thank you to all who have reached out and continue to keep the CMPD family in your thoughts.”

Statesville Police Cpl. Casey Hoover also was hospitalized while serving as a member of the Task Force.
