Foul play not suspected in June death of man found dead in abandoned Fayetteville house

A Fayetteville man whose body was found wrapped in a blanket and splattered with paint inside an abandoned home last June died of a drug overdose, the autopsy reveals.

The decomposing body of Curtis Lee Womack, 49, was found in a back room of the house in the 500 block of Orange Street on June 29, according to the Fayetteville Police Department and autopsy records.

"The body is wrapped partially in a sleeping bag, and the body has been covered in paint, I guess, to keep the smell down," a 911 caller stated.

According to a report by the medical examiner who responded to the scene, a witness told police that he last saw Womack lying face down on the floor of the house on June 28.

The individual called police the next day when he returned and Womack hadn't moved, the medical examiner noted. The report states the body was wrapped in a green comforter secured with a paint bucket handle. Drug paraphernalia was found nearby.

"Law enforcement was initially concerned (of) foul play," the autopsy states, "but after investigation, there was no evidence to suggest anything more than an overdose at this time."

Womack's cause of death is listed as acute fentanyl and cocaine toxicity.
