Fotonica review

Fotonica challenges you to navigate a futuristic and surreal landscape, avoiding obstacles along the way to see how long you can keep it going. With a minimalist geometric style, this game transports you to a new dimension where you can lose yourself for hours at a time if you so choose.

Pros

Gameplay options: There are three ways to play this game, and you can switch between them at any time. The single-player options are Arcade and Endless, with the additional choice of playing in Normal or Hard mode. And if you'd like to play with someone else, you can choose the Versus mode to play with a split-screen on the same device. You can also play in either Portrait or Landscape mode.

Basic controls: In order to play this game, you only need to put your finger down to run, lift it up to jump, and put it down again to land. However, just because these controls are basic doesn't mean the game won't present endless challenges to keep you coming back for more.

Cons

Not easy: Even though the controls are basic, they can be a bit hard to master. And even Normal mode is pretty challenging from the beginning.

Bottom Line

Fotonica is a great way to pass some time. Its basic mechanics open a gateway to hours of enjoyable and challenging gameplay, provided you're not turned off by the steep learning curve at the outset.
