The Fortune Hotel has left viewers "stressed" by ending on a cliffhanger, with fans saying they can't believe they need to wait a whole day to find out the latest twist.

ITV's new game show hosted by Stephen Mangan sees pairs of contestants based at a luxury Caribbean resort competing to win a briefcase containing £250,000 or be sent home early with nothing.

But with one couple in danger of checking out early, Wednesday's episode ended before fans could find out their fate.

The tension has been picking up pace in ITV's The Fortune Hotel, with viewers admitting to being increasingly invested in the contest.

So when Wednesday night's episode cruelly ended on a cliffhanger, viewers complained that they were "stressed" and "couldn't believe" they would need to wait a whole day to find out what happens next.

Gary and Lesley held the briefcase with the check out card and chose to swap with Aysha and Samm, putting them in the firing line to leave. But the episode was cut short just as Aysha and Samm were asked whether they would swap the case again or keep it - unknowingly keeping the card that would send them home.

Stephen Mangan hosts The Fortune Hotel. (ITV)

The Fortune Hotel launched to much fanfare on ITV but as the programme got under way on Monday (May 13), many viewers claimed it was too similar to BBC series The Traitors, which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman. Some called it a “rip off” and a “copycat” of the game show.

With the hopefuls keeping secrets and lying to win the contest, many fans suggested it was much like The Traitors. Some also thought the dramatic music was even similar.

Many posted messages on X to share their thoughts as it aired, with a couple saying that it was “The Traitors but with suitcases”. Someone else said it felt like a “knock off”

One claimed: "The cloak-and-dagger-pop-song music is exactly the same as in The Traitors."

The Fortune Hotel airs on ITV1 at 9pm Monday to Thursday.
